About Stamford "the finest stone town in England"
Stamford is famous for its magnificent stone buildings and architecture; the town unfolds into a series of winding lanes and streets which are lined with buildings untouched from their medieval and Georgian origins.

Visitors never cease to be impressed by the genuine welcome they receive & many return time and again. Stamford's heritage embraces a wealth of eighteenth and early nineteenth century town houses built to complement its great period of prosperity achieved during the stagecoach era; it was renowned during this period for its comfortable hostelries, luxury shops and Georgian theatre - the town even boasted a successful racecourse.

With the advent of the railways during the mid nineteenth century, Stamford became more accessible to the discerning visitor and its welcoming approach has remained ever since. Stamford offers a wide and diverse choice of attractions and a wealth of quality independent retailers, including numerous antique shops and galleries. Winding its way through the centre of the town, the river Welland offers panoramic views across the meadows reflecting the peacefulness of a bygone past.
